Goog morning, all!
Have some trouble with my P38 diesel, year 2000, auto. Yesterday driving on a highway 120km/h constantly, after a hour the engine suddenly twitched a few times on acceleration.
Ok, and then after another half hour started to twitch more and more and without acceleration too. Well barely came home and at idle the engine has dropouts and cutt off.
Starting normally, still dropouts and cutt off. Connected nanocom and first three faults cleaned up,

started again and a new one came up:

Where do i start? Should i replace the CPS or injector #4 first?
I have a spare engine but they not qite the same. Mine is an EGR type, the other one for spare parts is from an '98 P38 non EGR tye. Im shure the CPS are the same but not shure about the injector.

Any advices, tips, hints please...?
Thanks

If you swap out the cps DO NOT undo the bracket holding it just remove the cps.
as you have a spare nowt to loose there in swapping it.
i believe if the no4 injector fails it will run to a default setting which will not cut out like that.

Only problem is number four injector is not a speed sensor and has nothing to do with fuel flow.

Hi, thanks for answering. Replaced injector #4 and no faults so far (after 20km test drive). I hope it was only the injector.
I'm guessing you have disturbed the wiring to the cps when replacing the injector. May need a coat of looking at.

I think that was from the first set of faults.

CPS is dead quick and easy to swap over but wiring can be brittle so take care.

Worth checking EDC fuelling screen and modulation. That should give away if #4 is giving a signal or not. If on default I think it shows 50%.

Checking lift pump is working is quick and easy. Follow Wammers guide in the Technical Section.

As @RangeRoller dt said the mil light would be on if there was no signal from number 4 injector
