I have just bought a 1964 2a with a ford 2.8 v6 conversion, I want to put a n/a 2.5 90 diesel engine in. Will it go straight in? The 2a has a series 3 gearbox.
Hope you knowledgeable folks can help with advice.
In the long run the 200tdi will be cheaper....more mpg...you are replacing engine anyway...so for 200-250 quid for a 200tdi...it'd be daft not to..imho.
Gotta disagree to some extent with some of the above. Yes a 200tdi or 300tdi would be a fine engine to have, however the torque they produce might be the death of your ageing drivetrain. Also with standard gearing a tdi will not produce any more top end speed than a 2.5 n/a. You then want overdrive or maybe 3.54 diffs, then you find your brakes and suspension are not up to the higher speeds maybe. I reckon a 2.5 n/a or maybe a 19j turbo diesel(if you find a good one) is ideal in a series.
Got a 2.5 N/A in mine, works fine, big improvement on the old 2.25. Not too difficult to fit, only needed re-working 1 engine mount, moving the battery, throttle linkage, power to injector pump & electric fan.
