That Transit/ford engine is a very dependable engine. With a performance kit they are capable of about 225hp which would be a screamer. They were detuned for LR application
Mine has the 2.2 and I think it is utterly brilliant in every way. Detuned - yes, so it is limited 90mph. And that is quite fast enough for a stock defender chassis and running gear (and an old geezer, if I want really fast it has to be a motorbike). Who in their right mind would want more power and speed in a landy??

It’s nice to have a bit more torque to reduce gear changes and keep speed up on hills particularly when loaded up or towing (or both)
I had a mild remap on my TD5 and it transformed the driving experience, l can now leave it in fifth on any motorway hill and maintain 65mph.
Where before l was down to 50-55 flat out in fourth.
I can’t see why that would be a bad thing in anybody’s book.
As power in standard tune is about the same as a TDCi l would imagine a stage 1 remap would give similar benefits.

@lightning I've got a stage 1 economy/performance map on my current td5 and it just makes it much more forgiving to drive, the powers there when you need it and it'll potter about at 30 in 5th. Also helps fuel consumption as you're not bollocking it just to keep up with traffic.
I rarely go above 65, so it ain't about speed for me more driveability and avoiding flat spots

Yeah a remap on a Defender is not so much about driving it faster (although it does make it possible to overtake!)
It’s as much about maintaining speed on hills and reducing gear changes, so making it nicer to drive.
Also the power comes in sooner so you don’t need so many RPM between gear changes.

Thanks to all for the previous replies on this. Piccy shows what I'm looking to replace, this was sold a few month back. In looking to replace it I'm really suprised at the prices some people are asking for their trucks (which they are perfectly entitled to do so).
It appears like mine was a real bargain to the new purchaser!! it was a real case of first to see etc....

I went to look over a very nice 2.4 110 over the weekend and was quite impressed. Drove quite nice, easy at motorway speeds and fairly quiet, the closer ratio to 1st and 2nd gears is also noticeable.
Do I think its worth splashing out on a post 07 ? Probably not, my TD5 was equally as nice to drive but the chassis was getting a little tired in places and I'm not looking to do too much welding if I can help it in the future.

Decision made, I'm going to settle for a TD5 2001 to 2006 and probably a 90 with some form of rear seats. Anyone have one?? ;)

Me. Always looking for more power!

My TD5 is very highly tuned, i could go further but it would end up costing too much per power gain.

Though if the TD5 goes bang or diesel becomes too expensive its getting a 4.7 Toyota V8.

More power is always better in any car.

disco sold today, £500 deposit he's picking it up tomorrow. £4100 so well pleased with that.

So lads/ladies I've got c£13k to spend on a 110 so wish me luck. @bankz5152 it's gonna be a double cab ;)

Seen a really nice black one in MK but I don't want to view it first cuz I'd probably just buy it :D

You've probably seen it but I just noticed this on eBay.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up with, I really like the 110 dcpu :D

I have indeed! Was planning to try and view that and 2 more both in Milton Keynes in 1 day on the weekend but it's a helluva jaunt for me. Maybe do that 1 in Newport Friday afternoon. There's 1 in brownhills as well which is local so going to see that before the weekend if I can.

I was looking at station wagons but they just don't have the same presence as a double cab do they?
