Hello there. Wonder if you fine people would lend me your brains. I've just purchased old 'DORA' here (wife named her - Drain On Resources, apparently !), a 12/24v 1991 FFR 110, believed to be ex-RAF. I've not stopped grinning yet ! :).
Question is, is it a 2.25 or a 2.5 diesel. The chassis number gives her as being a 2.5 when she left the factory. The V5 gives her as a 2.25 when she was first registered with Swansea back in 2002. There appears to be no stamp/plate on the engine other than a 'remanufactured for ABRO' plate where I would assume the original engine number was. The plate reads :

Job no: 1PR980000819-5
Date : 03/09/98
S/no : 1600
STD Bore

I understand ABRO to be the agents for the MOD's vehicle repairs. After speaking to ABRO they tell me that they would have contracted the remanufacturing out to a company called 'Whealstone' in the Midlands. Can't find any details about this.

Can anyone tell me if there's a way to ID the engine just from looking at it. My local mechanic could only scratch his head. Land Rover Traceability suggested that the 2.25 (from a series 3) would just never knowlingly be put into a 110.
Military registration was 71-KJ-98.

Appreciate any replies.

If it's a 1991 then definately a 2.5. if it's post 84 then definately a 2.5 the year 2.25 was fitted to 110's was 1983/84. So I would have thought it's unlikely to be a 2.25. Much more likely is that it's a cockup by DVLA. (very common)

Dude I like it! DORA looks the bollox!!

Can you post some more pics so we can get a better look??

Mine is a 90 Ex-MOD (1986) with a 2.5 Diesel. As yours is newer I would assume that it is also a 2.5.

Humble apologies. Piccies, of course ! They will follow just as soon as I work out how to upload them . Landy's are not the only thing I'm new to. Damn this midlife crisis:D

The engine in question.........

int there a difference where the injector pump is fitted? dun do doosuls me but i think thats the 2.25

Very unlikely to be a 2.25 from a Ser III for all sorts of reasons, not least that the MOD didn't use many, so they were unlikely to be available for rebuilding.
I doubt it would be worth while (or even possible) to fit all the belt drive & other ancillaries to a Series motor, and I suspect they would need to drill & tap two holes for the LH engine mounting (or weld a new bracket on the chassis, even more unlikely.)
Could conceivably be a 2.3 out of an early 110, but very unlikely, again the MOD didn't use them in any quantity.
Certainly in the fifties they did some very strange matches during rebuilds, but I think they were done in house (lots of National Service men around), not so likely now its all contacted out.

Injector pump's in the right place for a 2.5. I think you looking at the vacuum pump for the brake servo.

that all pretty irrelevant as there is no guarentee that it is the same as was fitted in the factory. thats a bit like saying that v8 lightweight that was posted on here some time back hasn't got got a v8 in it as they didn't fit v8's into lightweights.
its a landy, they came with allsorts and have had all sorts put into them from poogut engines to 6.2ltr doosuls

Yes, but all the evidence (if you bothered reading the thread) is that it is an MoD (contractor) rebuilt & fitted engine. I've never heard of the MoD fitting a V8 to a Lightweight.

Thats An Mod Ex Reserve Engine. Whoever Fitted It Has Spent A Lot Of Money, They Dint Come Cheap. There Isnt As Lot Of Difference Between The Outward Appearance Of A 225 And A 25 But There Are A Few. To Be Honest. I Wouldnt Worry Too Much Just Enjot It ;)

dint be fooled by the blue paint, scum bags have realised this and they actually pâint any old injun light blue and say " yerr, mate its a ex mil spec injun, fooking 5 bearing the lot and this one was dun special fer the SAS arnorl"

Abro Are Part Of The Mod, Orthey Used Ter Be Before It Was De Nationalised. Get In Touch With Them Via Their Website, Give Them The Job Niumber And Ask Them What Cc It Is ;)
