hi peeps just would like to know the top speed of your rigs out of curiosity.on a original engine of course.my 1972 2a peaks at 80km/h.

I belive that's about 50mph ? And with overdrive or not ?, without should get 45/50, with 55/60 ish, but dependant on engine condition etc

I can make 50 no problem with no o/d - probably more as it feels willing but i don't like pushing it. I read somewhere that diesel engines shouldn't be pushed continuously for long periods for more than 75% of max permitted RPM - this was related to small boat diesel engines but i guess same applies.

With overdrive mine can do 55mph+, not a calm or pleasant experience though.

35 all day long is best

Back in 1997 - 1998, my clapped out 2.25 would just about manage 60mph, downhill with a strong tailwind and my ear sticking out of the window to act as a spinnaker!

My rebuilt 2.25 no overdrive will easily hit a GPS 60mph but is far more comfortable at 50, did a 360 mile round trip at the weekend half of it towing a sankey with engine hoist , 300tdi and r380 in it.... That was interesting on the hills but still happy at 50 on the flat , just ran a little warmer

Cheers Steve

thanks for the responses! mine doesnt have od and is mostly orginal.hmm seems like the engine is holding up well.not sure what the prev owners has done to it.when the s2a came out of the factory the rated top speed was 50mph right?

How fast do you want it to go?

Factory setting are not necessarily the most efficient, and if you know what you are doing, you can vastly improve on them! :D
