i would have to second that! i dont think you get that much more mpg out of the diesel though, could be wrong but i seem to use an awful lot of fuel for the performance i get!
I have a Series 3 with an ancient 2.25 diesel engine, and I love it to bits.It does about 27mpg,which compares very favourably with the 17mpg I hear you get from a (good) petrol.
Ooo thank god someone likes their diesel s3 i wer startin t think i'll hv t get a petrol Sorry Ormus I know we had a kinda heated thread regarding the everyday use of a s3 a while ago but for the amount of time all be using (every week as opposed to everyday) it i'll live with it. oh n me dad's rather chuffed am not gettin a little hatch because at least if i put it into a field i can drive staight out the other side oh and also the s3 diesel insurance is 1500 as opposed to 1800 for a petrol. Regards, Jonathon
1500 and 1800 for insurance? Damn..... I'm only paying 100 and it's fully comp and a second car policy with no no-claims.... and I did have some points....
I had a diesel years ago but I can't remember too much about it.... other than it was a bitch to start when it was cold.... infact I'm not sure how much better it was in the warm.... lol And I really don't know too much about diesels.... I probably don't know too much about petrols but more than the diesels. It's always interesting to see what people say about both.
I've enjoyed the current petrol I've got so I think I'll try to stick with another petrol..... especially as favour seems to be mostly in support of petrol..... unless anyone has a great counter argument for diesel!
third party only ....stig how long has your son had his licence? having said that when I checked with 1 years 'experience' it only came down a £100. Who is it with if you don't mind my asking cheers, Jonathon
Handy!! thanks for that ...when the time comes they'll be one of my ports of call...i imagine an early 80's s3 will be classed as a classic so does that mean cheaper insurance Cheers, Jonathon
I thought I'd qualify for classic insurance on my '74 S3,only to be told by the evil parasitic creatures that lurk behind the counter of my insurance brokers that it doesn't apply to your main everyday vehicle, just your second, third fourth etc.
Ten years ago I used to get classic insurance on my motorcycle when it reached 15 years old,so I guess car insurers are meaner.
ohhhh ffffffffffor god's sake damn ah wey cnt win em all but i'll still try footman james...and every other bloody insurance co. in the UK Cheers Jonathon
i have owned both pet/diesel landies a good diesel is great good mpg reliable a bad one is a nightmare you always paying out also not suited for everyday use where as a petrol one is much better for daily use i use mine more than my car
