Am I mad?

Last weekend I test drove and ordered a new 2.2 tdci Defender 90 hardtop.

This will replace my 1998 300tdi 90 as my main car, I shall be keeping the 300tdi for green lanning and RTV trials.

I tow 3500kg on a regular basis, I did have a disco2 TD5 es for a while but I did not really like it, much prefer the Defender.

I have read a lot of reviews about the new Defender, some good and some bad.

I decided not to get the abs/traction control but it will have air con, heated seats and screen, electric windows and remote central locking, oh and it will be Grey.

I just hope I have made a big mistake!

Kev.

It'll still leak, fall apart and clunk.

Your 300TDi will become 'old reliable' :p

Be interesting to get your thoughts on it, some things I like and others I don't about them, was a funny sight parking my old farm one next to a shiny black 10 plate yesterday.

i think i would have spent the money on a disco 4.

Enjoy it, I would love to be able to afford a brand new one. And it will have a warranty as well!!!!

I did test drive a 2008 tdv6 Disco 3, yes it was a lovely machine to drive and pulled very well it was just not for me and £460 a year road tax really put me off.
I have put around 40,000 on the 300 tdi in 6 years so driving anything else now feels funny.
Hopefully if it dose get any major faults they will show up within the first 3 years while its still under warranty.
I think if you read all the reviews and horror stories you would not own any car.
I sold a 2004 td5 Disco and a 1970 series 2a on a galvanized chassis to help fund this purchase, if all goes well I plan on keeping if for a long time.

Enjoy had my 60 plate cermercial just over 2 years now 2.4 engine wife drives it like she stole it tows horse trailer and my digger on trailer done 30k in it so far no props apart from the door rubbers keep falling down not got round to sticking them up

Have it delivered from Land Rover to a local Waxoyling centre and pick it up from there.

I have already got the Dinitrol ready and waiting to go in, it will be the first job I do when it arrives.
Delivery is expected mid May so hopefully the weather will have warmed up!
I have access to an inspection pit so hopefully it won't be to bad to do, I have read so many bad reviews of waxoyl companies I have decided to do the job myself.

Go for it. The 2.2 is miles better than the transit injun. Cruises great on motorways, int restricted, tons of torque, and the gears are good. Cept first which is lower than the puma engines.

I drive one for work.

I am a fan of the older tdi's, but I must say I'm well impressed with the new engines.
We use ours quite hard doing forestry and stuff, so we are always towing summat heavy.

Cruise nicely on the motorway too.

Hiya I've just ordered a Defender 130 to, Down side the 10 week wait and the up side it's a defender not like the rubbish from ford or the like !!!

I was told 10-14 week wait.
I'm marking the days off on the calander, worse than a kid waiting for Christmas!

Kev, judging by those fellas that actually have/drive one you are not going to regret the decision! Good luck
