Hi,
I let my local garage do the 200000km service on my beloved year 2000 Freelander. They had trouble changing the 4 glow plugs and had to remove the injector pump to get the 4th one out. Ever since, the motor warning light comes on shortly after moving off. It goes off again whenever you take the foot off the accelerator to cruise, and also when you go over 120kmh in 5th gear (3000 rpm), which is a relief when you're doing long trips on the motorway. My local garage-man says we need to take it into LandRover to plug in their diagnostic gadget. Before exploding my wallet, anyone have any suggestions as to what my garage-man may have done wrong in refitting the injector pump? Or do I need to replace something thats gone to the wall (which I gues would be normal after 200000kms of fun).
Cheers
Brian

If its only started since your local garage fitted the new injectors shouldn't they pay to get it diagnosed or at least offer to split the costs with you ?
then if it turns out to be somthing they have done fix it free of charge?
I know this may be wishfull thinking but I live in hope that there are still nice people out there.
Good Luck

Up until recently, I would have my local Land Rover dealer service my Freelander, until I realized that they were pretty shoddy (eg distribution belt never ever changed). Then I switched to a local garage who seem OK. They changed the distribution belt, water pump (the vehicle was losing water) and did a general service. I'm just wondering if they've damaged the detector which controls the injector. Although I'm not quite yet a trusted client, I'll try negociate some kind of participation from them. Let's see how it goes. Thansk for your suggestion.

Check the signal lead from injector 4, make sure that it has not been damaged and the connector is in properly.

Mine exhibited all of these symptoms and it turned out that the cable had worn through and was intermittently earthing on one of the injector pipes.

Fixed using insulating tape.:)

The problem was resolved by adjusting the timing. To do that, I had to pay the Land Rover garage for 2h30 of labour; which I think was excessive. So I'll post another string to check out if I've been ripped off.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Problem solved.

Hi Brian
I have joined your club. I got my local Spanish Land Rover dealer to change all four preheaters on my 1999 Freelander, knowing they had to take off the Inj. pump. Surprise!!XX(?¿) now I have a glowing warning light on the dash. I took it straight back and they did have several goes over a two year period but could not cure it. I went to England for a visit and a specialist in Leicester, who diagnosed a Injector with sensor. I paid over 350 pounds at a bosh injection specialist, and no warning light briliant. Ran the car in England for a few days no problem. Got into France and warning light back on!?¿()XX! This is now three years down the line. I take heart after reading your story I am not the only person with this problem. I am now going to check the wiring to the injectors!.
Kind Regards
Colin
