Any views on owning a 2.0 mpi disco? Seen a nice condition one for sale locally.
What's the mpg like? And how are the engines for reliability/parts availability etc?
Cheers

NO... for gods sake NO!

I owned one, off road they're rubbish, fuel economy is rubbish. Driving long distances though, fantastic.

as a road vehicle they are ok but are under powered and for a 2.0l thirsty.Bad for leaking headgaskets but are easy enough to get parts for. They are reliable engines as long as its a good one and are good on the motorways but crap off road.

in all fairness, i took mine to Jersey and back and it was fine. I did loose a clutch, but that was just age.
Never had any serious issues, but if you plan to either field plod or tow, don't bother with an MPI.

Thought so. think I'll save a bit more and get a v8 with lpg inst:)ead.

good lad:D but if you do go off roading a lot dont get one with underslung tanks as they do stick out a bit underneath, easy enough to convert to boot tank though.

My mpi wasn't to bad till the engine let go i only paid £400 for it, i've pulled my brothers 90 out of some sticky situations with it no problem, they are a bit slow on the road but off road it wasn't bad at all, but am now converting it to tdi as i filled the original engine up with water off roading and broke it
