Hello i have a 2.0 mpi disco wich is now blowing lots! of blue smoke the underneath and body are spotless so am looking to put a diesel prob 300tdi engine in any1 know if i would need the gear box aswell? and to weld new mounts and if i would need the exhaust aswell ect...any info would help :) thanks

Hi. I am fairly sure you can keep the same gearbox. However, you will need to change the engine mounts, exhaust, fueltank & filler and a few of the electrics, but it shouldn't be too hard. The best engine to use would be the 200Tdi as this is designed to be mated to the LT77 gearbox you have, whereas the 300Tdi is designed to be mated to the R380 gearbox.

hiya i got it very wet few week ago lol the bottom end sized so replaced it so it has a new gasgit ect. am guessing maybe valve rings or valves either 1 is gona be costly so am thinking about diesel lump plus finding parts for the mpi is a pain lol

You may be able to keep the tank, but not sure how to go about fitting the fuel return pipe a diesel needs. It would probably be easier to fit a V8. The running costs are not much more than the Mpi.

Your best option would be to flog it and get a 300 - the MPI is notoriously crap but put it on ebay and you will get someone as gullible as you were when you bought it and then get a decent one for not much more!

i would its just the disco is 100% spotless it has 1 4" plate welded on and thats it! no rust at all on the body or engine bay or underneath

£1000? I just sold a 300tdi with nice engine, gearbox and chassis, but terminally rotten body for £600, even then I felt as though I had overpriced it.

Jesus! You'd be doing well to get £400 for an MPI. You will pay £500 for just the 300! And then the hassle of fitting it - add another £1000. Honestly, conversions like this aren't worth it! Stop trying to convince yourself, just bite the bullet and do it. Oh, and have another look at your own. It in't all that good actually!
