Hello all, I'm Nick, general petrol head love all things on wheels with engines, always been into fast hatches and the likes, but of the last year or so I've just got bored of my modified 2009 Focus ST and taken a strange fancy to a defender for some reason.

I purchased a '96 defender 300tdi county SW on Friday, in a sort of metallic blue/green colour. Not driven it much as I want my mechanic mate to have a good nose around it before I use it too much. It appears to have an oil (possibly mixed with diesel) leak, and the nr side swivel joint is weeping a bit too. Not an uncommon topic in the Land Rover world oil leaks although if it keeps making oil patches on the drive I will be shot by the old man.

Hopefully get it into good mechanical order over the summer ready for the floods later in the year.

The drive is definitely different to my Focus, but you can see loads sat up above everyone

Haha, I never thought about marking it's territory. There has been a digger operating in the area it's parked so it's probably detected the random fluids that diggers leak and got nervous!!

I'll get some pics up when I get a chance. All fairly standard looking with a few rough edges but it'll do me

I live in the middle of no where in between Sherborne and Dorchester. Where abouts are you located?

After 3 weeks of ownership I think I actually quite like it. After only driving cars since I started driving 11 years ago it's very strange being so high up.

Gave it a thorough clean through yesterday. Was pleasantly surprised that I didn't find anything massively worrying, haven't had any chance to take any pictures with it cleaned but these aren't too bad. It appears to still be leaking a drop or two of oil still after a rocker cover gasket replacement, and a power steering pipe tightened. Hopefully my mate will stop it leaking eventually, but I won't hold my breath.

Found what looks like a CB radio connection in the cabin tucked away. Also found 4 holes in the bed, never even thought to look there when I looked around it. Sealed with good old speed tape until I get chance to replace it. Luckily I'm handy with a drill and rivets. So when the workshops we're building are done I'll crack on and replace the bed and do a few other things to dress it up a bit.
