is there any reason the 19j engine doesn't require a sump gasket where all the other varieties do?

Looking thru the parts manual there aint one for the 2.5TD, but there is for the 2.25p, 2.5p, 2.5D and 200tdi. Then looking at my 2.5TD there aint one fitted.

Is this to give the engine a weak point so that when it explodes it does so in a controlled way?

If I fit one (to stop the ole bugger leaking) am I at risk from a hiroshima-like explosion of sheer engine power and oil pressure?

Mine ant got one neither, the last person to take the sump off must have had shares in an orange gobbo company he put that much on.

There is a gasket for it, I am looking at one right now, look for a 2.5N/A if you can't see it listed as a TD.

Paddocks - Sump gasket - 2.5 N/A Diesel - DEFENDER 546841 cheap as chips or

RTC5775 SUMP GASKET SET 2.5 TURBO DIESEL.

aye I know theres a N/A one and ordered it from the very same. Just wondered if the 19j could cope with such air and oil tight tolerances!

I listed the TD one there as well.

As its the same engine, just with a turbo shoved on - they just sort of expect you to know that... All of the parts could be listed as the same engine and just have a section for the turbo version.

There shouldn't be any pressure build up should there?!? You have an oil breather that coughs and splutters on the top:) I'm doing my sump gasket today and using the 12j gasket instead of sealant.....
