Hi There,
So... I've got a 1967 88" that has had a Late 19J and 4sp syncro box with fairey o/d installed in it at some point in its past. It looks like it's had a good job done on it - it has an original Snorkel that has been plumbed in to the breather as well as the intake, Oil cooler, Kenlowe fan (that packed in at the weekend, loose wires I hope...) and looks very tidy.
It's in decent nick all round and I intend to keep it long-term, but I'm under no illusions about it being a low-maintenance item...
The box will need a rebuild at some point - starting to jump out of second on overrun when in 4wd, but fine in 2wd with hubs free... so when I pull the box out I'm considering pulling the engine at the same time and doing a full recon on it - bores, rings, pistons (if needed) crank, shells and making sure the head is 100% before rebuilding with all new seals etc. Basically making as good (if not better) than when it left the factory.
I can already hear the "put a 200tdi" in it comments coming... Am I being daft to consider rebuilding the 19J? The problems associated with it don't bother me as I'd be looking after it properly. At the moment it's running fine, it's probably a project for next spring once the risk of snow has gone
Cheers guys, all advice appreciated
