Hi All, long term rebuild of my early 90 and fitting a 19J turbo engine. Need a new rad and Paddock have a NTC6168 to fit a 19J but will not advise on "conversions" so will not recommend pipes. Do have some that have the wrong fittings to the engine, they need to be female. Anyone out there done this conversion and know what fits. Thanks in advance and apologies if it has been asked before.
Cheers, Andy in West Wales.

There are a few variations, so it’s understandable why they didn’t recommend anything. I’m actually getting 2 new hoses made up today at a local hydraulic shop, getting rid of the steel pipe/rubber hose combination and just having hose - fewer leak points!
I would suggest waiting until the new rad arrives and take that and the original pipes to a hydraulic shop and getting some made.

@serious one I picked up my new pipes from the hose shop today, £105
The fittings aren’t readily available on their own, so he had to cut them off my old hoses and braze/swage them onto new hose. He did a brilliant job of it to be honest. But without any fittings to work with you may hit a stumbling block. An agricultural hose maker might be better prepared to make some, but I’d suspect they’d still need some originals to work from.
If you’re fitting a 19j engine and are getting a 19j rad&cooler then surely the pipes from a 19j will fit? (I appreciate that’s the answer you’re after!)
Most 19j engines have been replaced with 200 or 300 tdis, which leads me to ask, why a 19j?

The 19J turned up when I was looking for a replacement engine a year or so back and thought it would do the job without too many complications, although the oil cooler problem has reared its ugly head!. As you say pipes for a 19J rad will fit a 19J engine but told by Paddock that it depends on chassis number for correct fit and obviously my chassis number is irrelevant, how many variations are there ? I only have one of the connectors to the engine so would have to have one made to the pattern I guess. Glad to know your problem solved, will carry on looking and maybe try a local LR specialist.
Cheers, Andy.

According to the parts catalogue, there are 3 pipe variations dependent on VIN. However, the oil filter housing where the pipes come and go from appears to have remained the same - ERR 1347. Therefore it must be the rad/cooler that dictates which pipes should be supplied. But... the parts catalogue also shows only one radiator on offer, regardless of VIN. So, who knows!
As you say, a local Landy specialist may have some old and new pipes knocking around in order to find the correct one.
If you ask nicely, @jamesmartin might throw some light onto what the differences in pipes is and how best to overcome the dilemma.

I have 2 oil cooler pipes from a 19j that I don't need. I was going to put them on ebay but you can have them for the price of the postage. They were removed by a previous owner before an engine conversion. Let me know either way.

at the time when 19js were fitted the pipes would have a cone and socket type connector later they had straight tube flare and o ring

Thanks James, the one metal pipe that is attached to the engine has a cone and female screw on coupling, the ones that I have that do not fit have flare and o ring and male connector.
