Hi, as the title says looking for more information on what axles will fit from what years/models, or is it a case that most fit with a little modification? And what should I look out for if I’m but a set of axles secondhand?
Any info will be appreciated, thanks

Hi all. Have just joined this group (hence this post in the introductions section) to get some help and advice with my 1999 TD5.
I am looking to get some new axles because (enter reason here) and will post in the relevent section for more specific advice.

Why do you need new axles ?
Hi, thanks for the edit, we’ll I’m new to defender and getting a bit overwhelmed with how many different parts can fit them, but looking at the options is mainly because my current front axle needs swivels, and bearing. And want to rebuild it but need something in the mean time that I can put in place so I can still drive it, and take my time rebuilding the original one.

As @Galladog says it's probably easier (and quicker) to do the swivels and bearings in situ than it is to swap out a complete axle.
All TD5 axles are the same (as far as I know) ...

Okay that does make sense that it would be easier/similar amount of work. Any advice on where best to buy swivels/bearing from, or which brand is good? Anything else to check or change whilst I’m in that area? Thanks also for all the advice, cheer

When I did mine I bought the complete kit from Britpart, for wheel bearings use Timken bearings.
Some people don't like Britpart stuff but I have had no problems with their stuff.
You will have to remove your brake calipers, there is a bracket on the top of the top swivel pin that connects your brake line to the flexi hose, when you have disconnected your brake line cut a slot in this bracket so that you can remove your calipers in the future without disconnecting your brake lines.

Wheel bearing kit is DA2381
Swivel kit is DA3180 (ABS) or DA3179 (Non-ABS) - this is assuming you want the housing as well ?
The repair kit (without housing) is DA3180P (ABS) and DA3179P (Non-ABS)

I did the same when I did mine, Birtpart Teflon kit. make sure you get the one that includes the chalice (ball joint) as some kits don't include it and just have all the bearings and seals but are no use if you ball joint is pitted.

I also use the britpart wheel bearing kits (rather than timken) and have had no issues with them, they happily did a couple of trips around the desert in morroco.
