Hi All just looking for a little advise ,,can anyone tell me what a recon gearbox would cost for a 1999 Td5 manual ?? friend of mine who lives in Spain has been quoted 2000 euros just to replace the 5th gear in the box as it no longer selects 5th gear ..or would they be better off with a second hand box ?? any help would be greatly appreciated thank you .i have included photos of the parts the garage says they need .

Ashcroft Transmissions in Luton do a fully reconditioned R380 for £495 you have to put core charge of £350 on it until you return your old unit but £850 Vs £2000, no brainer.

You have to do a bit of leg work on the carriage but a half pallet delivered as part of a load is cheapest option for getting it there.

has 5th gear been difficult for a while to select and has now got to the point when its near impossible
does lever feel and move as it should ie full travel side to side and up down
was it sudden and gear lever feels to select but no drive
are other gear selections good

Hi
thanks for the reply .as far as i know the 5th gear just stopped selecting ,all other gears are fine .
i am seeing my friend later today and will get as much information from her as possible ,
But it is looking like a recon box from the Uk plus the shipping ,got to be less than 2000 euros
Thanks again

Ken

I know all about rip off prices for Land Rover parts in Europe having lived over there for 8yrs and rebuilding a D1.

A lot of the costs are going to be labour on it TBH if they are going to rebuild the box they have, it's quite labour intensive for a small garage to do as a one off build, Ashcrofts do them day in, day out for a living so they get them turned around quite fast with all the special tools needed and knowledge in knowing what and how to do it.

Best of luck.
