Ok boys and girls having spent nearly two days searching the forum to see what alloys I could bolt straight on WITHOUT using spacers I'm still none the wiser.

My 1998 TD5 has disc brakes all round and my modulars are looking very sorry for themselves so .........

WHAT ALLOYS WILL FIT WITHOUT SPACERS if any?

I have the chance to buy 5 what I think are boost alloys complete with wheel nuts for £125 but before I do I want to know if they will go on. Its a tad too far (140 mile round trip) to drive and physically try one before buying but I dont want to loose them because they are in perfect condition. They are from a work contact hence the good price but he wont hold them forever.

I'm ready for the flaming but does somebody know definitively and maybe even have a picture of a boost wheel (on a Defender would be good) so I could confirm my thinking?

Cheers
in advance and flame away!

Are they defender or disco2 fitment shifty. If defender they will fit. Disco2's have a different stud spacing.

For £125 it's worth the trip, they're easily worth that, if you're not going I'll go :D

I don't think they did boosts in Disco 2 fitment, they'll fit .

I had boosts on my defender without a problem

Failing that, a karcher sandblaster kit and a can of Hammerite smooth does wonders for grotty modulars

Thanks for the input guys but I'm even more confused now. I know they came from an older Disco but having done a kite about on fleabay they are not boost alloys.
They look exactly the same as these in terms of pattern but the bloke does not know if they came off a Disco 1 or 2. I wish he was nearer so I could just go and try one.

landrover discovery alloys with tyres | eBay

Maybe I'll just blast my wheels and get them powder coated.

there freestyle alloys in your link shifty, and if off a disco 1 will bolt straight on the defender

Now thats what I like to hear. Cheers Johnlad. They are in such good condition that with a little elbow grease and metal polish they will look mint.

I'll clean up the modulars and flog them on so if anyone is looking for 5 without tyres PM me. They have some surface rust mainly where the wheel dish joins the rim but nothing too scabby.

Sorry to hijack thread but has anyone used this karcher sand blast kit?
And what power karcher washer does it need?
Thanks

That's what I've got, works great but makes a bloody mess, it'll work fine with any karcher.

My advice would be do it on grass, people pay to have their lawns sanded

Just noticed you're fairly local, if it's for a one off job you can borrow mine save you spending £50 if you want

A quick update on my wheel saga.

Bit the bullet and went over to Kent (124 mile round trip) to collect the set of five Freestyle alloys from a rusty old Disco. Working on the theory that if they did not fit my TD5 Defender I could always sell them on and at the price he quoted me I could have weighed them in and got my money back ;). I paid £125 for the five including the wheel nuts which I thought was a very good deal. The wheels are not stolen and he had several sets laying around from Discos that he had broken. I sorted out 5 decent ones from about 25 wheels complete with centre caps.

After getting a 10 minute course in how to use his tyre machine I spent the next two hours swapping my tyres onto the Freestyles. I'm pleased to say the wheels fit straight on with no offset issues and I did not even have to adjust my steering stops. Bonus!
I can also confirm that 265/75 16s fit very nicely on 7J rims. I took the opportunity to fit the tyres with the stupid white lettering on the insides as I never liked them when I bought the motor but could not justify paying to get them reversed. Also as my old lady had scraped the two nearside ones down the kerb they were looking a bit tatty with some of the lettering rubbed off.

The wheels are in really good condition with only a few small scabby bits and none of the rims have ever been kerbed so I should be able to clean them up very nicely. I'll get them balanced once I refurb them but I have to say they are not too far out given my new job as a tyre fitter. The wheel nuts are not so clean but thats just me being picky and as he threw them in for nothing I guess I should not complain. I'll wire brush them and give them a coat of paint when I can be arsed.

Knocked out my rusty old modulars for £25 which covered my diesel there and back so all in all a productive day out. I'll post a few pics for those of you that like pics when I find the poxy charger for my digi cam.

Thanks for all the advice.
