As part of my electrical fault-finding and dash refurb, I need the wheel off to get at the column switches.

I've read a lot of threads here and watched several quite good Youtube videos, but nothing is moving it, including a lump hammer from below.

So, has anyone else fabbed, or bought a puller that will work with this style of steering wheel?

Mine was immovable until I used one of these....or make one yourself from some flat bar drilled and tapped appropriately.

Is there a threaded hole in the shaft?
If there is, a flat plate with a clearance hole to spread the load, wind a suitable bolt with a couple of washers and that might do the job.
Please dont crash about with a lump hammer, you risk damaging bearings.
 
Nothing at all, it's a strange design.
Seems to assume it will be easy to pull off.

Hold the wheel at the 12 and 6 positions and rock it towards and away from you while pulling. That's how I've always done it and I've never had an issue getting them off

I tried that yesterday and no movement at all and I also tried the boiling water trick and still no movement.

I'm now making a puller.
 
Some Plus Gas or RP90 on the splines [ not WD40 ] and do the above, Keep nut on a few turns, may save your face from a smack.
 
I have said this before, I recon Land Rover employed Neanderthal Man Mountain to fit steering wheels in the 80's 90's.:eek::D
Once off the first time not much problem the next.
 
No change, or movement.

Puller time, except that I have to make it first.
Get a flat bar with a threaded hole in the centre, put either end through the top and bottom of the steering wheel. Thread a bolt through the hole and tighten it down onto the shaft. If that doesn't pop it off then just give up and burn it
 
I always loosen the nut & have it flush with top of the splined shaft, hit it a couple of times
with a drift & a lump hammer to shock it, then rock it 9 to 3 o clock, do this a few times
they always come off but Im a strong chap & usually get quite angry with them.
