Hi ... bought a 1996 2.5 TDI Discovery after a few weeks started overheating when I turned on the air con and turned down the heater ... I removed the radiator and found no oil in the radiator whatso ever ... and very little ran out of the two pipes supply and return .... as I am new to Discoveries can any one let me know how to test the oil pump is working? also how to remove the oil pump and replace it?
Thanks

Hi David,

Welcome to the looneyzone.

A couple of things , you could do.

Download the Rave workshop manual from here.

Are you getting the oil light working on the dash? does it self check then extinguish?

When ever I have removed the oil cooler , I have never had a lot of oil come out.

Another thing you can do is run an oil pressure check on the engine. Again this is described iirc in the workshop manual.

Cheers

Hi Neilly thanks 4 reply ...no light on dashboard so I guess the pump is working ok ? I ran the engine just before I removed the radiator ... I guess all the oil must run strait back to the sump when I switched off the engine?
I think the head gasket has gone as I have found a hole in the expansion tank.

Hi again Neilly ...Thank you for the link ref online manual ... My Disco is a 1996 is this a Disco 1 or Disco 2 ?
Thanks
