Hi guys

I have a 1996 P38 4.0 V8 auto. Petrol/LPG Rangie which i bought just a few months ago. She has 147,000 miles on the clock.

The problems I have are that after 10 -20 miles she will simply cut-out at whatever speed she's doing whether it be 50mph or 30mph. Sometimes she will restart while rolling, but other times she just will not restart. This happens whether I am running on gas or petrol. When she does restart she runs pretty rough for a while, sometimes smoothing out and sometimes not, when she will simply cut-out again.

Other problem is that occasionally, when she is warm, she just will not start. She turns over, the engine sometimes catches but then the revs die away and the engine stops. This can happen over a period of several minutes to 1/2 an hour, then she starts and runs sweetly until she warms up and then see problem above.

From searches on this forum and advice from 2 seperate garages I had my local garage change the crank sensor. This made things worse. Now the car exhibits the starting problems from cold start where before it was only a warm start problem. Apparently there are 3 possible crank sensors for this model, but my garage, a small local one who has always been very, very good, assures me it is the correct sensor.

Can anyone help, please??

Hi all

Further to my query above. After posting the query, I took the car for a run aftrewards and it ran much better, no cutting out but a bit of a stutter now and then. What I'd like to know is whether any of these faults would be found by purchasing the following hardware and software ScanTool.net OBDLink SX Scan Tool?

Would this work with a 1996 RR 4.0SE petrol/LPG? Is it worth £62.99? Will it help me at all?

Many thanks.
