When I took my 2001 Jag in the MK lot wouldn't touch it because they'd upgraded their software and apparently it sometimes "bricks" the ECU on earlier cars. They advised me to go to Luton who were still on the old version. How the MK lot learned that I don't know.
My Jag/LR stealer in Boston also claimed they didn't have software, something about not being open long enough to acquire old software package or can't be bothered to work on old stuff whilst feeding frenzy for new Defender, Evouqe, Velar etc... is still going strong? I ended up replacing ecu/locks etc for £150, wished I had done that first rather than listening to the "b@##@$ks!" dished out by businesses and peeps! It does seem to be very "hit or miss" when you put yourself in the hands of professionals? It takes longer to fix stuff but I tend to be self reliant these days.

As one of the kids commented last time I took the Rangie in to pick up some parts: "l wasn't even born when that was built. God knows how it works, it doesn't even have a USB port."

one time I thought my fuse box kicked it with no obvious signs turned out to be this earth (now protected blue) loose and crusty.

Going to investigate some rodent damage, drivers side bulkhead. It was there when I bought the old farm vehicle. Had a little peak back then and damage seemed limited to the scuttle seal and sponge next to the bonnet hinge. It does feel like something is going to earth when it shouldn't? I did resistance test on ignition/earth side of relay which showed up as a closed circuit.... two nibbled wires touching? Didn't pursue this line as jumping the relay... battery to pump still had a "non start" and in theory bypassed any ignition issues?

On the rare occasions I have to use Halfords, I always have a chuckle when a kid asks me "can I help you?" Uh, probably not! Not unless it's to do with a SATNAV or Stereo.... do they even call them Stereos these days... ICE? They seem to struggle if I ask for a deep reach socket or a crow foot spanner. I worked for a parts supplier back in the 80s when there used to be a good Auto shop on every corner... we spent more time problem solving and flicking through parts catalogues to marry up and cross reference parts than selling fluffy dice or air fresheners. My local Autofactors probably gets fed up with me constantly trying to find alternative unbranded fluids and parts for the fleet and then haggling over the price, can't do that at Halfords.... computer says, No!

Halfords closed by me but round the corner the old auto parts factor is still there. Revamped modern not stacks of boxes of clutches everywhere like years ago he’d point to a pile and you’d have to rummage through but the guys son now runs it knows his stuff and things aren’t too dear. He was only one that knew I wasn’t crazy asking for E-drives (female torx) and getting annoyed when they told me try Currys
