Have question on possibilties why truck won't go into 4 wheel drive?

Ask away, but include as much information as possible: engine,
transmission, type of transfer case, year, model, and especially
color. How old, modifications, mileage, etc also help.

Our 88 silverado and boss' 91 silverado would only go into 4 wheel lo by
putting into park and shutting off engine, would go into 4 hi easily enough.

Still having problems on the 4+4! Although I have found out that I do have
power going to the solenoid by using a test light. What next can I look
for?

The first thing I would check would be the actuator on the passenger
side of the front differentail that engages the front axle because
they are known to fail.

The actuator on the front axles are know to go bad on those models of
trucks. THey changed the designe of them in 96 or 97 because of
failure rate.
