another question how many miles before you can expect pump problems,mine has done 125,000 miles,and it has the hot start trouble,is this definately the pump,or can it be a sensor,i have no warning lights on.
i am no diesel expert but i don't think it is a hot start problem,when you turn it off and it is up to temp,in 30 seconds it starts no prob,left for two minutes and you have to crank a few times before it fires up.
checked all the fuel lines,no leaks.
checked all connections,they are all good
 
There's an old trick to confirm genuine hot start issue. Run cold water with a hose over the pump to cool it and try again. The glow plug light should not come on (engine coolant is still hot) but the engine should start.
The theory is, that by cooling the pump casing you are tightening up the wear tolerances within the pump, upping pump pressure causing the engine to start.

i had the same issue very unlikely its the pump plus they cost a fortune, not saying it isnt though. my issue was no glowplug light when been running. i disconnected the water temp sensor at rear of head the front one i believe does the gauge inside the dash. left old sensor in got a new one tied some wire to sensor part and connected it to something that stays resonably cold in engine bay the inlet manifold brackets and plugged in my connector to it. thoery was tricks ecu into thinking its cold bringing on glowplug light worked a treat never any issues since

Sorry mate, but that's not a good idea
You are constantly running your engine on a cold fuel map and timing, a receipe for diaster. The 'hot start fix' timed relay you can buy on ebay is a far better solution than your proposal while still less than ideal.

There is the answer to your fuel consumption problems related in your other thread. You are knackering your engine as well.:eek:

There is not supposed to be a glow plug light when the engine has been running. The function is disabled when engine is hot by the ECU via the ECU engine temp sensor. The one you have bypassed. Just because you have power at the glow plugs does not mean they are working. Remove the wires from them and continuity test them, i am sure you have a few duff ones. Most importantly reconnect the ECU temp sensor or you will deplete the entire UK diesel stock single handedly.
 
well it could be the pump,or there is a place in oxford offering to adjust timing when hot,this should they say resolve the hot start,
wammers in your opinion is this masking the problem.
