I removed the EGR and cat on my 300tdi 90 about a month ago. It's seemed more powerful and smoother revving since but mpg has dropped rather than improving. Can anyone suggest whats going wrong?

NOTHING......improvement on mpg after these operations is not realistic... enjoy the power and the revving.

The trouble he's got is that for the first time in his car's life, the engine is going RIGHT.

If he drove it at exactly the speeds and acceleration (HA HA!!!) he did WITH the EGR fitted, he would get better MPG.

My TD5 Disco was quite a lot better after the EGR was removed, and then I got JE Engineering to make it go properly ... and boy, it can GO.

I just bought that kit off ebay and was looking at all the horrible sludge too. Guess it's an intake manifold off and maybe try some "Gunk" engine cleaner unless that's not recommended, and a jet wash (just to gain popularity with Mr Mondeo Man waiting to clean his already clean car).:D
put it in the dishwasher dont tell the wife though eh
