There's definitely a lot that doesn't ring true with that vehicle. Nothing about it is a 1995 Defender, but the DVLA says:

just means the reg from the donor is valid, doesn't mean much :)

The donor of what? Are you thinking chassis swap?

The ebay ad says that it's had a new rear crossmember. Why would he list that if it's had a whole chassis swap?

just for some reason (nicked?) they've bought a plate and reg from another vehicle and stuck it on this old one. :)

probably not worth the risk mate, go around and have a butchers at the chassis vin though.

The bloke selling it probably bought it in good faith
Can't imagine anyone in there right mind would list that on ebay knowing it's not right.
It's asking for difficult questions that one!
I agree go check the vin then break the news to the owner!

That's a bit of a naive attitude, have you not seen the acvis thread - ringers/clones are being put on eBay all the time.

This smells very fishy, it's waaaay overpriced and something doesn't feel right.

There are to many 'old' style bits for it to be a reverse engine swap so I agree - older landy that has been ringed with a newer ID either cos it's robbed or the owner is pulling a dodgy on a lemon he bought or something.

Other thing is it could be an Irish import or something and the deal cocked up the plate. I had this nice, I imported a 1983 mk1 golf bit from Ireland in 2003 and the Ebla put it on a 2003 plate, mistakenly thinking the import date was the build date. Took a while to sort out.

One word, RINGER walk away, there are plenty of 110s around without getting involved with a dodgy one like this. And its far, far too much money.

Maybe I try and give people the benefit of doubt?
Perhaps we should get a posse together and go an sort him out because he is clearly guilty of an horrific crime and not just a naive victim himself.

Run a mile, then run some more. It's a ringer. Everything points to an older vehicle (engine, steering wheel, wings, windscreen hinges to mention but a few).
