im looking to import a 95 defender into America from canada. I am trying to get the build date from the museum but its closed due to covid with no date of reopening. I have contacted Land Rover classics and they will do a certificate of authenticity but they are asking for a picture of frame identifiers? the only thing on the frame is the VIN that I know of. from what I have read they stopped doing dates in the lat 80s on the frames to early 90's. does anyone know of any location of frame identifiers on a 1995 defender?

thanks for any help

John

Looking at the landrover the left hand side jacking point(under front bumper) on the out side of this you should find a VIN stamped number
Start there & update us

we have the vin #. and it matches everywhere... Land Rover is telling me there are other identifiers on the frame? as far as I have learned they stopped date stamping in the early 90s, what im looking fr is if there are indeed other identifiers and where they are located?

Did you look at the link?
What are your 6th 8th and 10th characters, please don’t post the whole VIN.

So ask LR what are they?

I know the build date.. I am past all that. Land Rover told me. its a mid august build. they wont give me a certificate of authenticity until I send them photos of other identifiers on the frame besides the VIN. but form everyone one I speak to there are no other identifiers besides that? on the frame that is..

Ok.
Sounds like LR are being a PITA, Does it all match up with the VIN engine, gearbox, body type & year? If so I don’t understand what they are asking for extra, Ask them what too look for.
Are you asking through a dealer? Try another one?
I don’t know the 110 variants so really can’t help anymore.

I have just been back through my rebuild photos, as I remembered photoing various numbers on my galvanised GKN chassis. I have the original chassis number on the dumb iron, but I also have other numbers stamped on the chassis. I’m not sure what some of them are, but one is a date and time stamp.

Some times you find year stamps on trailing arm brackets. these numbers mean nothing to the purchaser. Only vin/chassis numbers are used

They will be looking for the vin plate under the bonnet and maybe the one in the front window if it is there but don't think so.
Pic of chassis number and vin plate should be enough.

its those other numbers they are asking for? can you tell me where those were and maybe send me a pic of them so we know what we are looking for??

There was a date stamp on my 90’s original chassis, inboard side of the nearside rail just forward of the bulkhead outrigger. Was stamped 91 as my car was registered January 1992.
