hello everyone, anyone fitted a disco 1 windscreen,me and my mate struggled most of the day trying to fit a new seal and windscreen, problem is getting the corners of the seal over the glass, the dvd manual says the seal should be fitted to the frame first rather than the seal being fitted to the glass first, and because the sides of the seal sit at an angle on the frame,it woudnt appear to be possible to fit the screen with the seal already in place.WE GAVE UP IN THE END AND PUT THE OLD SEAL AND SCREEN BACK,(
ignore the capitals)though that was nearly as bad,but we were able to use a bit more force,as the screen was badly chipped anyway, maybe thats why we managed to get it in,but I wouldnt like to use the same force on the new screen.Any ideas? Thanks

never done it, and it might not be right, but it works in my mind; I was told the way to do it was put the seal in the frame with a trailing loop of wire on the inside of each corner, so when you push the glass up to the front of the seal the wire is hanging over the front of it. Then pull the loop of wire out forwards, it pulls the seal with it and over the corners of the glass, if that makes sense?

Iv done it before using good thick string, fit seal to frame, then feed string into the glass slit all the way round, it can also help to put a little soap on the corners, then position the screen ontop of the seal, have a friend push down in the screen as you gently pull the string out all the way round, this folds the rubber over the glass, you just work your way round the screen and get presto, screens in.

Hope that all made sense.

Cheers mark.

thanks Mark ,didnt have any string, but will give it a go using the old screen first to get the hang of it,Phil.

The important bit there is using a fairly thick, soft cord. Thin string or nylon etc. can cut through the rubber. Try warming the new seal and, if the weather is cold, have your demister running to try and keep it warm as you're manipulating it. Don't be scared to push the screen (palm of your hand) fairly hard to get it to seat into the seal.
