could always run it up on wheel free 4 poster

No Problem Cheiko, Like I say I have a low milage box apparently 30K the gearbox was certainly good the gbox output splines were like new but I can offer no warranty. If you want it it owes me £80 depending where you are I may be able to deliver somwhere near or via LZ courier service.

My viscous has siezed and i could feel it when driving on road especially when cornering,I removed the front prop and i'm using it as rwd at the moment as i don't want to risk damaging the front diff/shafts.The other sign was it started wearing the front tyres badly on the inner edges which is a bit of a bummer as they were good tyres!

yes but this one may have stayed in the unlocked postion, fine on the road, not much use off road

Thats an interesting one there Fett,I didn't think that could happen but i'll have to look more into how a viscous coupling should work.I was always under the impession it either failed and lost all drive or siezed.I'm going to fit a discovery box with the manual difflock insted.

ok jai i will bear your transfer box in mind whilst i check it out, it may be that it just "had a moment" as she is normally a very capable machine as makes no unuasual noises on the road or whilst cornering ect???? hmm now wreckhunter how easy is it to fit a discovery auto box with true diff lock? u cant beat feeling that clunk putting it in diff lock rather than reliying on this viscous thing haha

Mines a manual and the landrover part number for the classic 200tdi gearbox is the same as the discovery 200tdi so in theory if i swap transfer boxes + high/low selector mech which is bolted to box i should be in business:cool:

LT230's can be fitted in place of them if need be make sure you get the right ratio I believe Borg warner is somthing like 1.211:1 and the closest LT230 is 1.22:1 Disco box.

All I would say is VC is considered better simply because its idiot proof on of offroad it does its thing. Expensive to replace but most RR are over 15 Years old now its not bad innings TBH. Also VC was fitted to RR not the lower spec LR models such as the discovery. (poor mans RRC).

All this said there are pro's and cons for both. I was planning on fitting one to my 90 because a detroit locker in the rear and VC would be very smooth transition for offroading which Appeals to me. Unfortunatly its only 1.211:1 ratio and I need a 1.00:1 ratio to get above 45Mph!
