Another update.

I have now replaced the governor and the three square section o-ring seals and re-assembled the gearbox. I have also changed the gearbox filter and ATF again.

Unfortunately the gearbox is performing in exactly the same way as before - changing up much later than expected in every gear. It still doesn't torque lock until 65mph.

I'm guessing that either something is blocked or the box is badly worn.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers

You could always try some Lucas Transmission Fix, nothing to lose but about £20, it fixed the flaring problem on my P38 but failed on another members P38.

Good experience with that, added some at first ATF change 1000 miles ago and now changes are much better, before it felt like a million gear box or at least 7 or 8:)
Only added 1/2 bottle other will be added soon at next ATF change

Using Fuchs TITAN ATF 4000 Dexron III which may be overkill but nothing to good for the preservation of antiques:)
