WOW! Your landy dressed up for Halloween.
I have the same style dash with the air con and no opening fresh air vents, minus the sexy colors.
It is standard on those years that have a/c fitted.
I've seen a few of these on ECR's website (east coast rovers) where they restore north american spec defender, and rip out that dash and hvac system for the newer style.
Nothing unusual, except for the colors maybe.
Cheers

Thanks for all the reply's guys. My AC unit is the under bonnet type, not the under dash one which seem to be on the US spec ones.. The vents are vertical, but are fed from a horizontal hole below them - it does not look like the typical dash with an angled panel behind.

I guess I'll leave it that way for the time being, if it's not broke etc.. Hitting 40C here, so just got to hope the ac keeps plugging away!

Mr Hockley - you might guess who this is.

What you have there is a standard ME V8 AC dash up until they brought in the Td5 when it went under the basic dash. You have exactly the same dash as I have in my red 97 v890 albeit mine is black and grey plastic and not walnut lookie like. Best

Dash

hey mate, i live in Dubai, with a Defender 130 i have just purchased, my 130 has the same dash which i have never seen any where else either.

and the conclusion that i have come to is that it is Gulf spec with more A/C vents.

My current plans are to lift the dash and remove the whole vent panel area from the steering wheel to the passengers side door.

PLAN 1

Make a Carbon Fiber copy with all my new instrument inbeded into this with the new air vents also.

This looks pretty easy on you tube as i belive it shall just be 1 flat panel.

Plan 2

knurled Stainless steel, but i am think this will cause a temprature reflection coming off this plan.

i will send picture to landrover and ask them regarding this matter as i am having cassis issue also as the 130 is longer ( the tasweel / MOT PLACE ) is refusing to pass this car due to the longer chassis)

so i might need landrover to verify this is a correct job which has been done by landrover.

Au the best
rob

P.S. i have NO ac at present
