Hi All - I have not long had a 2 door LHD to RHD conversion - which I am thrilled about! - My first Range Rover after years of Defenders.

It has 2 or 3 inch lift on it and I wish to go back to standard.

Wow - how hard can it be to get a set of standard coil springs :)

Does anyone know why LHD vehicles have different LH front springs than the RHD ones?

From what I can tell, for RHD they have the same springs on both sides (Blue) and a different set of springs for both rear (Green?)

As mine has been converted should it be set up the same as RHD?

I was planning on fitting Bilstein shocks all round.

Any knowledge would be appreciated.

Overweight yank drivers would need a different LH spring :rolleyes:
 
I can only endorse your research on standard springs :

Yes V8 RHD are the same both sides.
You quote the colours .. does this indicate you are seeking genuine item(?) if so I doubt they are still available, no idea what colour codes aftermarket suppliers might use.

nb. don't be too surprised if the car's ride height is slightly different from side to side even after fitting new springs .. it's an old LR at the end of the day ;)

Thanks for the heads up on ride height - that is worth remembering.
 
So I have ordered Blue for front as a match pair, plus I ordered a Blue LHD left hand one in case it is needed. I thought for £30 it would be cheaper than having to take the car back to the garage at some point later - they can have a go with standard, if it is a bit down on the left, fit the other one.

I went with Bilstein shocks as no-one ever complains about them, I have had them before on a Defender and was happy.

Car goes in on Tuesday to have the 5 speed gearbox taken out and an Auto Box fitted at the same time as the suspension.

I'll let you know how that all goes.

Yes AFAIK they are the same both sides, but for some reason mine always leaned slightly to the right, even when empty. Swapped both front & rear from left to right, and it still leaned slightly. Never found the reason.

I put new springs on my long gone old 1987 Classic but it didn't fix the problem. Think they were from Paddock Spares

I'll say it again .. it's an old LR & that's why you will never solve the issue.
Back in the day when my '87 was fitted with replacement coils & dampers all the components were genuine LR .. I still have a slight lean to the drivers side, but not enough to concern me.

When you are consistently sliding off your seat when driving .. that's a real LR ;)
 
Only noticed the lean when walking up to the car. Seemed ok when driving, except the lean on cornering which scared my wife, but never bothered me !!

I'm fortunate in that respect thanks to a previous owner retro-fitting genuine LR anti-roll bars. I'm a steady (but not necessarily slow) driver, but the Classic will corner on rails if pushed.

Unlike the first (2 door) RR I drove decades ago .. I think that took the paint off the wheel arches :rolleyes:
 
Just to feed back - Standard springs were fitted and it is as level as you can expect it to be - I haven't driven it yet, so it may settle differently!

So it appears, an LHD to RHD conversion needs standard springs.
 
I'd guess that the different springs for LHD cars are down to all the steering gubbins and pedal malarky being on the opposite side of the vehicle? A steering box, steering column, pedal box, replete with the lumpy Wabco ABS modulator and accumulator etc plus a notional 80kg+ for a driver shifting sides on the vehicle is combined a chunk of weight.

I can see where you are coming from, but that doesn't explain why the RHD specs. are the same for both sides .. after all the components you refer to (& the driver) are also on one side of the car.
