For sale, my 1990 Defender 90 200tdi Pick Up

In Rover Nightfire Red Pearl, showing 121,000 miles but completely irrelevant on this Landrover.

I had this for 4 years before it came to the stage of needing a new chassis, a brand-new galvanised Richards Chassis was purchased and then the hard work started. The chassis has been painted black with POR15 chassis paint and filled with rustproof.

The bodywork is in very good condition, both doors were stripped down with the frames shot blasted and repaired and new skins fitted. The doors have been fitted with central locking and have been delocked on the outside. The tail gate is now a side opening as it makes access to the rear easier. A new footwell was welded into the driver’s side as this had just started to get a couple of holes in it.

All body panels have been primed and repainted in Rover Nightfire Red with the roof in Black. All new cab and door seals have been replaced.

As always when you do this sort of thing it gets a little out of hand, all new brake pipes and hoses, all new suspension and polyurethane bushes, almost new or refurbished everything. Most of the bolts have been replaced with stainless steel ones.

The engine is a completely rebuilt 200tdi including new piston rings, crank shells, piston big end shells, valve stem seals, water pump, and timing belt. The fuel pump and turbo have both been rebuilt by specialists. Uprated 120 amp alternator and wiring has been fitted.

The gear box has been rebuilt by a specialist in Derby and the transfer box has also been refurbished with new bearings and seals, there is also 2 Hardy Spicer propshafts fitted. So all the 4x4 and Hi Lo works perfect.

Within the past 3000 miles both front and rear axles have been stripped and rebuilt with new stub axels, bearings and seals. It is fitted with disc brakes all round with new calipers.

Genuine Boost Alloys are fitted with 4 new Michelin Tyres fitted, the spare is a General.

It has 4 x mudflaps, side and rear steps, towbar. Heavy duty winch bumper and 12500kg winch, light bar with 4 x Cibie driving lights and a roll cage fitted to the rear, the roll cage is decorational not operational as it is bolted to the tub not welded in. Light guards are also fitted all round.

There is black chequer plate on the wing tops and on the sides of the tub (Inside). The rest of the tub and rear of the tailgate have been sprayed with truck bed liner.

Towbar with 7 pin wiring has been fitted but never used.

Internally there has been equally as much work undertaken as the outside, both the dash the roof lining are now black cloth, the door linings and sun visors are in black to match.

The dash has had a Mud Stuff Console fitted with Oil Pressure Gauge, Turbo Boost Gauge, Rev Counter and a genuine clock all fitted. The main dash has a voltage Gauge and Capillary Water Gauge (I think all the new gauges are Durite).

The seats have been replaced with Leather Heated ones from a Mazda RX8, the drivers side is electric. The steering wheel has also been retrimmed in leather and there is Exmore Trim carpets fitted including seat box.

There is a cubby box fitted between the 2 front seats which has the all important 2 cup holders. The stereo has also been updated and is now a Pioneer DAB system with 2 speakers in the dash and a small amp behind the seals powering an 8” sub which is fitted to the cubby box.

The front screen has been replaced with a lovely heated one with all the correct relays and wiring, the wipers also have an intermittent relay fitted so you don’t have to juggle the switch on and off all the time.

As with every Landrover there is always something to do, or maybe I am a little bit of a perfectionist, but the paint work is nice and shiny but there is orange peel on it, never bothered me as it is what it is, designed to go off road not sit looking pretty on the drive. It isn’t too bad and is 1000 times better than when it started out with me as a dull dented green.

The chequer plate and the front bumper could do with repainting or powder coating, I personally would powder coat them but need to leave something for the new owner to do.

Since the rebuild it has never been off road so is still clean and shiny underneath. There is loads I have possibly missed but I have 2 folders full of receipts for all the parts I have purchased since I brought it.

Security, yes there is and will be discussed with the new owner.

DVLA have been informed of both the colour change and the new engine number. I also have the chassis number from the original chassis along with loads and loads of photos of the build.

As with all Landrover's there will always be something you will want to do to it but that is the joy :)

Viewing is most definitely recommended and a test drive would be available providing you can prove fully comprehensive insurance.

All in all a very nice sorted Landrover which now needs a new home. It will be sold with a full 12 month MOT for the new owner.

No part exchanges thank you, I am in no hurry at all to sell so please don't insult me with silly offers especially if you haven't seen it, they will be ignored.

Price to members of the forum is £9000, it is listed on ebay for £9995

From what I read, it seems yes the market is quiet for anything expensive/high end, bangers are apprently flying off the shelf.
I guess people wanting to avoid public transport and the wise ones keeping their money in their pockets.
