I have done the usual searches on the forum (brilliant by the way) and t'internet, but would be grateful for some more help.

The fan blower in my 90 has excellent air flow, problem is the air is always cold. I know the 90s aren't equipped with the best heaters, but some hot should come through?

I have bled the system and replaced the thermostat.

Next - heater box repair such as per this:

Just a suggestion but is the heater cable on top of the box actually working when selecting hot flow. When selected the little lever on top of the heater box that pulls the cable should move towards the nearside. I used a spring to hold the lever to the inside of the nearside wing...hey presto very warm heat!

I assume that you have checked that when putting the lever inside the cab to hot that its actually moving the cable on top of the box and operating the valve? The cable should be at its longest when on hot (if that makes sense).
Its not the best design in the world but its simple and easily remedied and there is a very good write up around somewhere that tells you how to adjust it to get it operating at its best.

If cables are working

After a good run, and with the engine running, are both pipes in and out of the heater box hot (or at least reasonably warm :))

If not - blocked heater matrix - flushing out might solve, if not replacement beckons
 
OK Chaps - progress of sorts!

Spent a few hours in the garage with Landy and checked the hot air cable (working perfectly) and the 2 x rubber hoses on the left hand side of the heater box (both nice and warm) so I think it must be the heater matrix?

It is 23 years old after all.

Interestingly, when I refitted the wing top mounted air box thingy, the 'pull' from the heater blower fan was so strong the screws to attach the box to the wing aren't really needed.

Two of these boxes are on my Landy (one on top of each front wing) - not sure what these are called:

Any ideas on cost of new matrix?
 
You're fan actually draws in air? Jeez aren't you a lucky one, mines is akin to an asthmatic cough.

Check out paddockspares.com for a matrix. I find them to be very reasonably priced and delivery and customer service is top notch.
 
I was looking for a matrix last year...i nearly passed out at the price, over £200 iirc.

I bought a nice hat.

Email sent to Paddocks to ask for price of matrix and heater cables (may as well spend more ££££s) and sort the problem once and for all (probably).

The two pipes leading to the heater box get nice and warm (good):

And the fan blower (sucker :lol:) draws fresh air in so strongly that the box on the wing:

almost doesn't need the screws to attach it to the wing - so strong suction (good).

Any ideas as to why the air in the cab from the vents is cold?

Would replacing the box 'thing' with something like this help to increase air temp in the cab:

Your second picture is just a blanking plate, depending if it's LHD or RHD which side it's on (obviously the one not into the heater.
The third is similar to what you already have and lots of debate about whether they work better than the original which is like the blanking plate only with holes.
The last is a "snow cowl" designed so that snow (or water) doesn't get into the heater duct and ruin the fan. The intake is underneath.

One final thing to check, the cable moves a small arm on top of the box. This moves a flap inside via the long rod through the box, just make sure the actual rod is moving - my clip that holds the arm on is broken and you can't buy them!!!

The cable and rod all work fine, I think it maybe the heater matrix after all.

Paddocks have given me a new price and there are a few on EBay.

More ££££s...........................................:rolleyes:
 
To replace the matrix you're going to have to take the heater box out, so firstly do that (do a search here for how to do it)

The matrix comes out quite easily once the box is out, so before you buy a new one have a look at the old and see if you can't flush it out or see if there's something obvious that's gone wrong with either it or the simple mechanism inside the box.
At the worst you'll learn how it works, at best you'll fix it and save some money for the next problem.

p.s. I'm getting round to sorting mine out, it only pushes hot air no matter what.
