I just use the 'one man' system to bleed my brakes, that's a tube with a ball bearing in the bottom and have had it for years, I tried my new Gunson auto bleeder just once and the cap popped off leaving a bit of a mess at the recommended 20psi pressure, more like 10psi required, so the kit went back in the box and that's where its has stayed.

Time spent for me remove the spare and let down the pressure, do the job, pumped the tyre back up and fitted the wheel back on it would have taken the same time as the old method and still much the same by letting out the pressure out of a fitted front tyre and using that, and also I still have to remove the wheels to get access.

Thanks, should sound quite nice with the centre pipe I made up - that removes the centre silencer! :D

Ewww cats - now why would you want to fit those? :confused::D
 
Just realised I haven't posted pictures of said centre silencer repair I did.

The... uhh centre silencer was very... rusty. Yeah rusty! So I cut out all the rot and was left with this.

We'll see how long this setup lasts and how long it takes to get tired of constant loud V8 and headaches... :rolleyes:

This setup will do until I go for complete stainless, 4->2->1 or 4->1 manifolds, 2.5" at the collectors, x-pipe to balance and then two 2.5" pipes out to the rear with back boxes.

Haha I think it would be more trouble than its worth trying to get a Thor 4.6 to run properly in a classic. Its hard enough in a P38!

I do wonder how difficult it would be to put stand alone management on them for use in a classic. Cant be that difficult surely!

Not that difficult at all depending how you do it.

Dump the Thor system and you could either find a 3.9 intermediate engine (runs on hotwire injection and still has distributor bit has serpentine belts) and use the bits from that if you wanted to keep it a serp 4.6. Or just bolt on all the required bits so it uses v belts and you can use a distributor. Then either run hotwire injection (requires remapping/chipping) or ... just fit megasquirt and not have to chop and change parts to get a distributor on there. ;)
 
While I wait for bits to arrive and the inlet manifold to be machined then there is still plenty to get on with!

Got the rear bump stops bolted onto the chassis. (no picsyet)

Also attacked the fuel tank guard with the flap disc and a few coats of cold galv spray and then anti stone chip.

Getting into the corners of the mounts is a right pain. Wish I had a shot blaster...

Got the coolant expansion tank bolted into place. A little job but still needs doing. The coolant level sensor is FUBAR though - some PO soldered the wires for it directly onto it. Why do that?

Couple more bits to do before the first start. Couple of bolts on water pump, coolant lines to heater matrix, pulleys for water pump and alternator... etc.

Just can't wait to get my 87 back in the garage as it needs a little work following a cat c a few years back
Love the Center box, amazed how compact nd aerodynamic it can become, think I will need on of them for mine, should sound nice with a my high lift cam.
 
Just read that from start to finish - love the RRC - watching with considerable interest....

used to have a new one every year or so, when I was an employee.... bl**dy marvellous. would have another like a shot, so comfy, and pretty safe with it, which reminds me .... traveling down the M1, at about 60, ( always drove like an old man, even when I was young!!), front wheel bearing seized, span the RRC into the central reservation, took out thirteen meters of said reservation, and most of the front nearside corner of the RRC - which had stalled by this point (!) - so, there I am, sat there, against the reservation, facing the wrong way, and another RRC comes into view - a white one with lots of coloured lights on!! I come to my senses, try and start it - it starts, and I "drive" it onto the hard shoulder, ( more like force it - the front was a "bit" of a mess ) - at which point one of the coppers comes over to me, opens the passenger door, looks me up and down - could almost see him counting arms and legs - and then asked me "You alright Sir?" - still makes me smile now. Coppers said later I would probably have been killed in any other vehicle - and I walked away..., albeit with quite a bruise from the seatbelt...but I walked away.

Yes pete1987RRC, get spannering! How bad is the damage? And also, to be fair I don't actually know what the centre silence delete actually sounds like. Haven't started or run the cam in yet on this engine. So first start up is an extra surprise! Fingers crossed its not too obnoxious on long journeys. Heck, its a V8 gurgle burble. Perfect soundtrack and all that. :)

Disco1VFG - arrgghhh I'm so jealous! Well, not with the front wheel bearing seize incident. What a story though! A RRC vs front wheel bearing seize and a central reservation. RRC and owner comes out on top! :cool:



On a slightly related note. I didn't think one existed, but I finally found a picture (A real one, taken on 35mm film!) of the vehicle that inspired me to get a RRC.

This, in all its glory is my fathers 87/88 Range Rover Classic. It has a 3.5L V8, but it also had something rather special, it had a Janspeed turbo!!! Oh... and it had a Wood & Pickett dashboard and interior. It was a bloody fantastic thing and I miss it so, so much. This picture was taken ~2000/2001. I can still remember being taken to the first few years of primary school in it. I can also remember going to the quarry and watching tonnes of gravel or sand being tipped into the trailer for various garden rebuilds/fencing projects etc. (Also, spot our neighbours Series III!)

I miss that thing. But now I have my own, and have plans in the works for my engine in the future. ;)
 
It's panel damage.
Some old dear departing Morrisons pulled directly across my front and bang. Bonnet went through her window and bent her b post a little. No injuries thank god!
Range is offside wings, front panel bonnet and bumper ect so not too bad. Owned the thing for 10 plus years so it's staying an d going back on the road when I get some time, till then it's the lse which ain't the same.
