Drop arms can be difficult to remove, although they do come off with a decent puller and hammering.....what's worse.....removing the drop arm from the PS Box or removing the drop arm ball joint??
Couple of things to do for the MOT, Ball Joints on the Drag and Track...and the exhaust....
Use a small bottle jack and a little piece of broom handle or similar. Jack it slightly under the joint, to lift the baseplate. Remove circlip with pliers, and the works will come out, all except top race. Put a wood block under the arm, and beat out top race with a hammer and drift.Grand....
Many thanks for the advice, I will have a go at changing the drop arm ball joint first....then sit and lick my wounds and get the hydraulic puller from work to pull the arm off if the ball joint doesn't budge.....
As this is a long term project for me (well it is the girlfriends car as she has wanted one for fecking ages) I will look into the Disco mod, as it will be easier for future maintenance, just got to get the thing through the MOT first!!
Beat the top race downwards, or upwards?Use a small bottle jack and a little piece of broom handle or similar. Jack it slightly under the joint, to lift the baseplate. Make a little puller with a bolt and a steel plate to pull in the new top race. Then rebuild the rest as it came out.
I would get a genuine/OEM kit. the cheapies sometimes don't work.
