Does anyone know of a source for period radio-cassette players, i.e. Clarion PU-9044A, or is it a question of searching a certain auction website?

There were loads at the Land Rover show at Billing a couple of weeks ago. It moves on to Peterborough soon. That shouldn't be too far to travel from Beds. You could try your luck there.

Try Clarion themselves 01285 861861 (mail@clarion-service.co.uk) very helpful guys, enthusiastic about their older products. When I asked about repairing mine they said that in the event of it not being viable they might be able to scource a replacement!

Great - thank you. I will contact them and see what happens.

BTW, where were aerials placed on the RRC? I cannot find any trace of one although the radio and speakers were fitted. I have heard about something being next to the rear wiper motor but am unclear.

It uses the rear screen heating element & an amplifier situated behind the rear headlining above the tailgate.

Thanks, that makes a lot more sense now.

BTW, I can get MW fine but nothing on FM - is this likely to be the radio or the aerial? I would have thought I could not pick up MW without the aerial working...?

MW & LW signals are stronger/easier to pick up than FM but you would most likely get nothing with no aerial. It's possible the aerial amp is duff as it would probably pass enough signal for MW even if it's not working. Either that or the connection the the heater element has broken where it flexes as the tail gate opens. DAB is an even bigger problem as regards signal strength.
