Head cracked, block cracked pistons cracked.
It'll be 1 or more of those.
It's scrap unless you're determined.
Fit a 200 tdi.

If your lucky its the head gasket but most likely as above.......dont run it! get the head off and start looking for the damage

My engine has stood and I have no idea if it will run or just for part's or rebuild.

thanks guys gonna try a few things first and if no good I will source another engine bloody shame .but hey ho its got 270000 on it so I suppose its inevitable

That must be a world record for a 19j!

Try pulling off the rocker box cap with the engine running. If it is blasting out gas, head gasket minimum, scrap engine maximum.

Thanks for the reply mate.
In all honesty I'm really after the power steering set-up from a 19j so not that worried whether it's a runner or not but still happy to take the whole engine if it has all the ancillary parts in place.
If you still want shot of it let me know please, no dramas either way, the original offer still stands.

ok guys .took the crankcase breather off was gunked up possibility of the back pressure but it had water in .head gasket you think ????
