Hi new to the forum.
I have a barn find which I have got back to life but for its MOT ( should have waited two more years) I need a twin battery box cover as the pigeons flew off with the old one. Any idea where I might source a replacement cover. The original catches are in place

Not good at the tech but it’s 24v and the bigger battery ( grey one) , being oversized is being replaced.

so the back story is that I found it recently in a barn. Always wanted a LWB but confess a civilian blue one from about the same time 79/80 would be my ideal.
As far as I can make out it can out of the army and lived in Weymouth. Then it was bought as a shooting brake present for the previous owner but they lost interest and it sat in a barn for some time.
The engine seems ok, having now found out that the air filter was upside down which meant it was in the oil bath do no air getting to the carb. Yep it’s a petrol.
The chassis has been welded and under sealed some while ago. Most electrics are now working but the right instrument cluster, fuel, temp and the other one are not working. May be an bad earth??
I have the washer jets to do but I have read it’s a complete nightmare.
It’s lost its canvas.
I want to get back to one colour but it does have a shabby shic as it is according to her indoors.
Planning to have mot later this week. It will fail because of the battery cover issue. May try to make a wooden one.
Brakes are vague and it comes with the usual oil leak.
 
Well it was Mot day today.
The tester seems to be a Landy fan!!
Although we have a problem with the master cylinder and servo he absolutely loved her. It’s all original, great chassis, great bulkhead, engine really sweet and transmission faultless. Agreed with others here, leave the paint as it is.
Should be street legal in about three days. No time for me to do the repair kit. Going for a replacement.
As regards the canvas, it looks like Exmoor have cornered the market. Are there any other suppliers?
 
Undercover covers in Birmingham. Slow to respond at times but top quality. Exmoor Trim tilt on my lightweight rotted after 3 years. Exmoor Trim seats in my Defender split after two years.
 
I replaced a broken washer nozzle recently and it can be a bit of a pain to do cos the dash top has to come off and the top screws are a bit tricky to get at. I used a Phillips screwdriver bit held with an old brake spanner. I managed to snap a big chunk off the driver side air vent fan tail so the instrument cluster pod then had to come out to replace it. I still haven't got around to putting the dash top back on, I actually quite like it without it. Also, britpart washer nozzles have a wider water inlet diameter so you might need to change some pipe. I superglued a slightly bigger pipe onto the existing pipe. Getting the old broken nozzle off didn't go by the book either, I had to tighten the retaining nut until it snapped.

Thank you, So if the dash top comes off is it possible to then get to the backs of the washers?

it seems incredibly poor that the canvas rotted after three years? Do Exmoor suggest a coating to apply?
 
The nozzles are accessible with the desktop off but it's still a bit tight, you have to remove the air vent fan fail piece as well. You need a spanner on the outer part of the nozzle and a socket on the inner side but and longish arms. The nut will be rusted on. Maybe that stuff used for waterproofing Barbour jackets would be good for the canvas top available online.

it was treated with Fabsil but first the stitching rotted & then the canvas itself. A number of people on a forum dedicated to Lightweights have had same issue. Apparently Undercover Covers used to make them for the military & have recently got the contract back. Don’t quote me on that but I understand they use the same material for their tilts as used by the military.
 
Hi and welcome. You have obviously discovered, like me, that as soon as you repair one bit, you spot another that needs doing!!
