At that age try Gaffa tape or fertiliser bags...a bit more info might be helpfull or even a pic...

I had a 1985 V8 110 CSW in pageant blue and county brown trim.
The front seat bases were also adjustable for rake, which I have never seen before or since, was a very simple system though.

What issue of the mag. was that in, was wondering the same thing and got a full set of LRE in the shed.
