I too went down the Heritage Cert route and found it very useful. Gave me Date of Build and Date of Despatch. Turned out my Series was registered a year after manufacture and thus explained things like 1980 wheel bearings on a post 1980 vehicle!! I therefore contacted DVLA who, I have to say, were very helpful and have furnished them with cert and other docs to have the vehicle registered as Vehicle Tax and MoT exempt ---- thereby freeing up some cash to spend on the old girl (the Landy that is, not the missus)I suppose so. Yes I’m starting to go round in circles. I have a 1972 rear diff, 1979 front diff, no chassis number (replaced I think), V5 and VIN number which states my ’88 is a ‘109, V5 stating manufacture date as just 1980, V5 stating first registered in the UK as 19-03-1990 and with a recon -1993 - 951xx engine (MOD). I think I may be a bit uckier than you in that I don't think there have been any real mods carried out and the Series does appear to be in more or less original condition --- aprt from air filter. Thats great. many thanks for this.Contact DVLA and explain that you now have official certification stating that your Landy was built in 1980, although it was registered for road use with DVLA much later, and is therefore actually in the 'Classic Car' bracket.
You will then likely be asked to send your V5C, V10 and V112 (both can be downloaded online), Certificate of Authenticity (BMIHT cert) and a cover letter explaining the background. You could also send current MoT cert, but they told me that was optional. They then say that it should take 6-8 weeks before all paperwork goes through and you get amended V5C. The MoT and Tax exemption should then be automatic.
However I would phone them first and confirm what info they require. I called and they were very helpful ---- contrary to what I have heard from others
