I have for sale my 1979 Series 3 Short Wheel Base Land Rover. I have owned it for approx 4 years in that time it has covered arround 4000 miles. Originally bought as a weekend car, with the intention of doing up and using for light off roading/ green laning.
It comes fitted with a 2.5NA engine which was lifted from an 1985 110 this has approx 90,000 miles on and fitted quite well with the milage already on my vehicle. The diffs have also been changed from a 4.7:1 ratio to a 3.54:1 ratio using a set of very low millage range rover classic diffs. this means less engine revs when driving around town. this was done within the last 100 miles.
Just had a new front dumb iron proffesionally fitted to the chassis, and rest of the chassis is in good nick overall. As you may expect from a vehicle that has been used for some off roading the body work has a few dents and scrapes but overall is in good condition. Bulkhead is in great condition with no rot, doors and sills are also in good nick.
Interior wise it comes fitted with style seat up front and the back has a twin bench seat and a single seat. Exterior It has a rebel 4x4 steering guard fitted as well as a front diff guard and a winch bumper though no winch, there is also a raised air intake(though not connected at the moment). Vehicle is also fitted with an X-Eng Handbrake conversion.
The car has 11 months MOT however is currently sorn and in need of a little work before it could be driven very far so i recomend trailer away only im affraid.
So onto the bad bits, firstly the reason it must be trailered away.
The front steering swivel hubs no longer hold oil. there is some pitting on the balls which i intended to replace, howver it MAY be ok with just the seals being replaced. I also think the front wheel bearings need doing. All in a weekends job i recon i just cant find a weekend to do it. The wheel bearings were an advisory on the MOT and have since got worse, therefore i would not say its is road legal at the moment.
Next up, brakes work fine but need a pump up, This is beacuse i cant adjust the shoes properly, I have a new set of snail cam adjusters for them but again its finding time to fit.
I have also noticed a slight leak from the rear axle since passing its MOT.
I have a 200 TDI airbox to fit to the car thoguh i planned to relocate the main battery (Which is a big powerfull one) underneath the passenger seat and place the airbox where that is currently.
All in someone with some time and effort could get this back to being an excellent vehicle.
I will be sad to see her go but i really need the space in the garage as i now have a 110 aswell.
Vehicle is located in south Birmingham (B14)
Pm me for pictures. (i will upload some here soon)
