Hello folks I have this about, having been told its possibly some motor used for airfield scramble i thought I should ask the folk who know!

I am dont know what to do, if it is a genuine special I want to make sure it doesnt get overlooked.

I will stick more pics on as and when I get chance, its got a 292ci small block in with a holley on it, 3 speed box. its got dc connections built into the roof panel, a lucas trip computer, various gauges etc.

I have had it for ages but have not had time to fix it.

I have no idea what the question is but the vehicle looks like a series 2a with a s3 grille and an inverted military front bumper. Front panel is too far forward maybe to make room for the motor.

It's a 1971 on the logbook, Ive got the detail for the engine, does anyone know about the history of 2 wheel drive land rovers of this type?

far as i know (without googling the answer) the only on purpose 2 wheel drives before that were the series 1 and only a few of them were made

So its possible that its just a normal one adapted then? It has heated screens, radiator and fans between the front seats for the heating. Is there any point of contact for finding out?

it certainly didn't come off the pproduction line like that and theres no way of telling what the legitimacy of parts were used in it's "construction"

I don't imagine for a second it came off the production line like that. I'm going to put it on ebay if it's not a proper special, I just want an idea of what it's worth beforehand :)

ah i see

a lot of LRs were adapted for various uses, some were done by specialist firms (coachbuliders etc..) some were just done by themselves.

does it have a plaque anywhere on it?

The chassis tag has somthing about the 4x2 conversion having being done by D.Payne and a year, I will get the deatil off it in the daylight. Other than that I haven't seen anything but to be fair I havent looked that much.

try the series 2 forum, they are SERIOUS rivet counters ;) they'll be able to tell you everything you want to know and someone will probably buy it off you on that site. Save all the hassle of dealing with the tw*ts on ebay or paying the fees.

i know they made a series of 4x2 series 2a 88s but the 109 is very possible that the factory had a few front axles laying about and they had an order for a special and the rest was done at a special factory but your does look a bit special not your normal farm hack and take it to the series 2 forum the rivit counters will know all there is to know

I think ive seen that parked on the side of a certain road for years, often wanted to stop and rescue it if its the one im thinking of mate.
