Hi,

For the last couple of years I have been a named driver on 2 cars ( Not illegal as I live away from home for the majority of the year, and only use them during my holidays from University), but am saving up to buy my own car and insurance policy for this summer.

Having been a named driver on an admiral policy for the last year, I have 1 yrs NCB to use if I use them, and they have said they will insure me on a 1985 90 with a 3.9 V8 for £750, £300 cheaper than if it were a diesel..

A 2000 reg VW caddy 1.9 diesel was going to be £900.

How does it make sense?! The cheapest car to get insurance on is a 90 with a big v8! :D

People buy the smaller engined cars thinking the smaller they are the cheaper to insure well then they get crashed. making the 2.5 tdi more likely to be crashed as there is more being driven ergo more likely to cost the insurance company money. Quite simple really,

I old friend of mine had a 17 year old son who got a quote for a '69 dodge charger 440 (his dad imported american cars) and unbelievably it was only 200 quid more than a 1.6 golf. Unfortunately he couldn't convince his dad he wouldn't drive it like an arse so he ended up with the golf

His old man said 'when you come out of college and your mates want to race you off the lights would you race them' his son said yes and his old man 'that's exactly why I won't buy you one'
