Amazingly my insurers are Swinton!!
Location makes a big difference.
I don't believe a disability should but insurers would disagree!

the insurance will be 2 grand alone, before he even buys the car, no way will he get a car insured fully comp for 2k

Forget fully comp then. Personally, I never bothered with fully comp until I could afford a car where the insurance premium warranted it. A sub £2k car is not really worth claiming on anyway when you consider the post claim loading along with the value of the car. Especially at the age of our young hero. My first car at 17 was a 6 year old Mk3 Escort. It cost me the ripe sum of £1100 and cost £110 a year for insurance. Fully comp was astronomical. Funny how nowadays there's little difference for me, but back then it was 2-3 times more for Comp. 6 months later I upgraded to a Granada 2.8i Ghia X which surprisingly didn't cost much more to insure. Strange, but as a youngster, I found big 'old men's cars' a lot cheaper to insure than my mates hatches and a shed load quicker and more refined. And more room for the birds....

Anyway, back to FLRs- get a quote on an L series diesel and a 1.8 petrol then let us know how much.

Fully comp is normally cheaper for me. I'm 24 and has always been the case. Get your parents on the policy as named drivers and it should be cheaper aswell. Try a quote on commercials as I know several people who had 90 pickups and disco commercials because they were cheaper to insure for first cars. Less seats = less chance of being used to ferry people backwards and forwards to McDonald's. Those black boxes knock loads of money off but I didn't want one

I used to pay £1100 23 years ago for my first car, now 42 my range rover is 275 a year with full NBC 23 years worth but only give me 10years.

You just have to go through the pain like we all did I know it's crap but that's life

I was thinking of doing the black box on what ever i car i get because I dont see the point in speeding everywhere you can

I was 21 and I started out with my current TD4 3dr. Locked building overnight (multistorey residents area) with aviva, brokered through annandale. 1750 fully comp. This year after 1 year NCB I went to flux and it went down to 830 with all mods declared.

Flux was cheap for me but I don't think they like young people. Due to being specialist insurers
