Freelanders cost less to insure than the like engined salloon or hatch. Not 100% as at 28 I get raped by the insurers using a different set of rules. Try a disco cheaper for me to Insure and much more agile offroad. I mean to be ok in a freelander make sure it has 4wd and a decent set of wheels.

Im use to driving a my mates defender and I dont wont a disco because theu r too big for my needs

With a 3d printer **** easy lol. Depends a working snorkel is easy making it look pretty makes it harder lol. But possible enough

No point in a snorkel, lots of other things will go wrong before the engine takes a drink!
We do lift kits, guards and other accessories for the FL1

At a young age buying a car is costly. Insuring it is costly too. Running it (fool/tax etc) is also costly. Just about everything is costly. Forget the mods.

Ok thanks for the info about the snorkel I am training to be a car engineer so im not too worried about the engine

Well I will want to do a lift first if I find one for sale with good tyres like ats
Check you can get insurance for a Freelander, and with mods fitted. Others have been put off Freelanders when they're young due to insurance costs.

Insurance isnt too bad on them.

Im 25, 3 years NCB, paying £52/month fully comp for my 2003 K series. I imagine the diesels are cheaper as derv tends to always be a bit cheaper on insurance. Quotes for a disco were slightly cheaper (something like £45/month) but defenders were much higher, probably due to them getting nicked like tramps nick hot chips :D

Either way, at 17 and being a first time driver, you WILL get utterly raped on insurance, theres just no way around it. My first car when I was 19 was a 0.8l Citroen AX, 4 speed gearbox and top speed of about 50mph, and I was paying about £140 a month to insure it :(

I would seriously reccomend getting a smaller first car to build up some NCB... most insurers are going to see "17yr old boy" and "giant land rover car" then either laugh as the £££ signs pop up, or just refuse to cover you.

by most insurers they see the freelander in the same light as a hatch meaning the petrols are.considered "sporty". getting an auto will reduce your insurance. the disco is an easy drive and the dervs are good as they can be run on chip fat. That will make running costs cheaper along with insurance it would be the best choice of land rover from a financial point of view. I would say my father in laws old 90 felt bigger to drive.

Wouldn't recommend running an m47 engine on chip fat, just asking for major trouble!
I'm 25 and pay under £300 a year to insure mine, including mods! Think I've got 4yrs no claims, with Admiral.

Training to become a car engineer isn't and shouldn't be an excuse to go reckless with a car, especially one that will land you with big bills, just cos it can be fixed doesn't mean its fine to intentionally allow it to knack up in the first place.

Might be thinking of selling mine in a few months, depends what your budget is though

It will be about £1,000 to 2 but I might get a small car now if thet r bad on the insurance and work my way up to a Fl1

You might want to double your budget and add a bit to take into account the insurance! I can't see you paying less than 2k for insurance on any car in your own name

Against a car the FL should be cheaper insurance. 2k get you one with insurance. maybe take out monthly insurance and use what you didn't buying to save up. offset the Insurance against the savings.

the insurance will be 2 grand alone, before he even buys the car, no way will he get a car insured fully comp for 2k
