Morning all,
I want to put a 12 v socket in the boot of my Rangie. I would like it permanently live - it will be fused at 5amps. Is there any permanent feed in the boot area or would I need to run a wire from the battery?

Regards
Steve

On 1999 and on vehicles there is an accessory socket in the boot. Look in wiring diagrams at auxiliary trailer socket there maybe something in that loom you can use.

I just ran a 4mm line in a tube along the top of the chassis rail from the battery and up through an existing rubber grommet into the boot.

Can't think how many times that boot connector on my car has been used! One of the most usefull things you can do is to put one in.
Example I run a fridge/freezer (out of a boat) on long trips. Have used power tools from a powerful inverter fixed in the boot. And recently had to use my TestBook T4 to reset my EAS in a service area on the M6 in the middle of the night - first time ever but on the start of a major Scandinavian trip I am glad I have always taken it just in case! rest of the 2000 + miles was uneventful. Typical RR ownership.

Interesting to hear of other uses members have in using one?

Thought the wiring was there for caravan 12s socket that would have a 10a permanent feed. That said I ran my own as datatek suggested its dead easy and you can run a 30a wire which will power most anything.

It does that is why i said look at auxiliary trailer loom diagrams. 10 Amp is a little low to be of much use depending on what he is thinking of using the power for. But the accessory socket fitted after 1999 is fused at 30 AMPS from relay 7 in BECM. Slightly differing BECM pin outs on earlier models but could be used, non are permanent lives though because this relay also feed cigarette lighter and only comes in with ignition in accessory position or better. :);)

Morning all,
Thanks for the replies,
Must have just missed out on the fitted socket as mines a 99 V reg. Only need 5 amps so will look at my trailer socket.

Cheers

Steve
