Hello fello **** heap owners.

I have had my freelander now for 12 months now and think there is a big problem looming ahead. I was driving home from work yesterday and when I was coming down the lanes (admitedly I was thrashing her a little) when I turned my music down I could hear a loud whuring noise everytime I stopped excellerating. its still going on and im quite confident it is the gear box as I can feel it through the gear stick and the noise is from that area.
The only thing that puzzles me is that it carrys on when Im in nuteral. It only stopes when I accelerate!

New Gearbox???
any input would be valued?

P.S- im sure its not the IRD, I already removed the prop shaft and IRD pinion wheel and blanked it off.

P.P.S - Its a noturiosly **** 97 1.8 k series.

Anyone had the same thing?

Clutch?
My commercial made the same noise you describe, and the clutch went a few days ago, i had to start the car in first and drive 10 miles home at around 8mph :( it wasn't a fun experience, still at least i didn't have to push the lump. I'm in the process of fixing it, i'll let you know if the noise is still lingering after the new clutch is in.
cheers matt..

Ok cheers.
I have just changed the oil. still the noise remains? also did the same in the IRD put some thick slick 50 in just to make sure but still the same.
hope its not the clutch dont fancy driving from cheshire to preston at 8mph in first gear.:(

mate if it is the clutch we do em at work supply an fit with 2 year guarentee an is normally same day service but we are based at j10 of the m6 if any good to ya we also recon gearboxes too if needed

thanks for the offer but my brother is a michanic and insists on doing all the work for me. so its a nice cheap option for me.

we get them reconned for around 400 pound thats with 12 month warrenty an we charge 150 quid for fittin that also includes a 12 month warrenty an comes with all new oils an if u wanted a new clutch while its out i believe it is an extra 75 but would have to check with our supplier for current price
