Hi all!
I've got a 110 with a leaking transfer case seal between the transfer case and LT77. I've removed the transfer case on my Jeep CJ numerous times, and have a few newbie questions on removing the transfer case from an LT77/300 TDi; my search for "transfer case" in this forum answered some questions, but I still have a few left:
- Is there a reason the service manual and several posts suggest using an engine hoist to lower the transfer case rather than using a transmission jack? I will have the 110 up on jack stands, so I think I'll have enough space to slide it out while on the transmission jack.
- If I remove the x-brake, I have all of about 4.5" between the rear output flange and the middle crossmember. Is this enough space to remove the transfer case, or do I need to remove the rear output flange to give me that extra inch or so?
- I plan on removing the transfer case frame mount, but will leave the LT77 frame mount in place. Is the LT77 frame mount sufficient to hold everything in place?
- That O-ring on the intermediate shaft - is that just a common size available at hardware stores? I only ordered new seals for both the transfer case and transmission.
- Any other thoughts about what may trip me up?
Thanks in advance,
Michael
