Hi, I'm new to the forum. Bought a 110 about 2 months ago. Problem is, I tow a trailer with a laden weight of about 550 kgs. My towbar seems to consist of just a plate that's bolted on and the ball itself. It appears to be missing a pair of "arms" or something that joins it to the underside of the LR. Is this dangerous? Can these arms even be bought separately? The main plate seems to be bent inwards slightly already. Not from my trailer but from previous usage I suspect....any advice appreciated...

:pop2: Some might say that introducing yourself in the Introduction section, before requesting help/advice, would have been the polite thing to do.....

I will content myself with saying that a pic of the towbar might be helpful :D

Does the flat plate have two small angled ears to the bottom with holes in them? If so, there should be a pair of arms returning to the chassis. Ensure you use high tensile bolts when securing...

My tow hitch if its any help?

Sorry - I appear to have made a few people cross. I usually only get to go online late in the evening so just checking in again now. I didn't realise I should have done a separate introductory-post. Thanks a lot for the sample photos and the ebay link - very helpful. Here's a shot I just took a couple of minutes ago. Looking at the ones that are on ebay, it seems like I could possibly just get a local metal fabricator/welder to make me up a pair of braces...

They'll get over it  :D :D

Thought that were quite restrained ackshirly :D

I cant be bothered to look see how much they are to buy, but personally I'd rather buy said items that are made for the job than get someone to make em for me. I know the bolts need to be high tensile I've no idea if the braces should be too ;)

Oh and :welcome2:

Yeah, you're right. I'll just get a proper set. Feeling a bit bruised lately as I just bought my first Defender 2 months ago, a lovely looking 2002 110 with what I thought was just a "probably-nothing-too-serious" diesel leak. 2 weeks later I was having the engine replaced as I'd been sold a cracked cylinder head. My diesel leak was actually an oil leak but the oil was full of diesel :(
Ah well - them's the breaks...otherwise loving the thing. Looking forward to kitting it out a little bit once I get over that little hiccup...

I assume the what to do when you've bought a crock of **** thread is not going to help??

I've not read it

But in your position I think I would. Though it may be too late now :(

Yeah, I think I could\should have chased the seller for it. It was a private sale, not a dealer and I suspect the guy hasn't a sheckle to his name. Also, I'm kinda friendly with a few of his mates and the whole thing was just damn awkward.
I'm gonna let it go I think. Right now, she's running brilliant so I just want to enjoy it without any more hassle.

Just make them yourself, couple of lengths of angle iron and a few hefty bolts, bobs your uncle and your dad:D

Hope ya have lots o fun in the white mud ;)

i think there are some people on ebay that sell the drop plate and arms for about £60? probably cheaper than messing around with local fabricator.
