I am looking to extend my 110 to a 130, does anyone know
1, if the chassis are the same thickness?
2, if the 130 suspension is fitted can you uprate the gross weight?
3, any company who could do the work.

Thanks guys, but if it is done correctly it should be no problem. Big commercials have extentions done without any probs. However, if a 130 chassis came at the right price, but so far I can only find 90 and 110 chassis.
 
fair point.it can be done but the cost may be the same as new unless u do it your self.
when ya done it galvanise it but not too hot cos it will warp at that length.

130 can be expensive.where have you looked.
 
130 Chassis were orginally "Cut N Shut" versions of the 110 Chassis (I.e This is how they were made by Land Rover themselves!)

Took them a couple of years until they started making the 130 its own chassis
 
Thats interesting, and makes it doo able. All I need is the chassis thickness and drawings. Why are the chassis drawings so hard to get. Or am I just looking in the wrong places?
 
there are some relevant engineering applications to apply to the work involved.you apply the laws of physics to it and you will be fine.cut it on the diagional to the load on the slight up sweep at the rear.extend from there.id put in some extra box to stifen the existing box section that is said chassis.it will be fine.remember that a 130 used to be 127 so get the right parts.
 
My mate sometimes does work for a bloke who alters hgv chassis. They basically cut. insert or remove a section, and weld it back together. It shouldn't be a problem to do it to a landy chassis.
 
No real probs with the tech bits once you get the drawings and the correct metal. Most chassis extentions have a 15d angle on the cut with a flitch overlapping the join. Most chassis are open ended channel but in this case as box section it would have to be flitched at top and bottom on both sides to give a propper job. All metal has to be cut with an angle to the face otherwise it will just set up a stress area and it WILL crack!
It just seems impossible to get the correct drawings, some one must have them somewhere. Dont like working something like this on a hunch. And the DOT will want to see that not only is it done correctly but that it complies with the manufactures recomedations to keep type approval.
But it looks like I will have to try my hand with L/R and see if they will be helpfull or not. No bets on which way they will go.
 
It can be done as long as you follow the basic rules. All cuts have to be at a 15d angle to avoid stress and cracking. All joints have to be fully flitched on the inner and outer side of the chassis. But you do need the spec from LR as the DOT will inspect and expect you to provide proof that it is done in accordance with the manufacturers recomendations to retain Type Approval. (If not your off the road). But! I have found a chassis manufacturer that can provide a new 130 chassis, fully galv and ready to go. Have not used them myself but intend to take a close look upon my return to uk in Feb. This is the link if it is of any use to anyone.
